Merle Lindby-Young brings more than thirty years of experience in textile design, color, and materials design and development projects to furniture, textile, and building products manufacturers and distributors. President of Merle Lindby-Young Associates from 1987 to 2006, she offers D & D expertise and comprehensive project management from concept development, sourcing, and product positioning to market introduction. Ongoing tracking and interpreting of trends for client companies results in design and development of relevant new products. Client relationships included Vecta, now part of Coalesse, of the Steelcase Design Partnership; Stratford Hall Textiles, Pergo Flooring, USG Interiors, USGypsum Corporation, and Joseph Noble Textiles. Merle has designed and developed contract upholstery lines, notable contract and residential collections in collaboration with Andree Putman, Tai and Rosita Missoni, Halston, Geoffrey Beene, Jhane Barnes, and other well known designers; and innovative exterior finishes and new directions for residential flooring products. Her use of color and finishes for USG's “Interior Trees,” introduced at NeoCon ‘96, was awarded the IIDA APEX award for “Best of Competition” and received wide acclaim. Prior to founding her consulting firm, Lindby-Young was Vice President, Design and Product Development for KnollTextiles, a division of Knoll International, and earlier was Vice President, Design Director for Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. She introduced the Color Logic Carpet Color System for Knoll Carpets and designed the Axminster Carpet Collection, winner of a Roscoe Award for Product Design. Merle has been an active member of Color Marketing Group (CMG), has served as a CMG Director and Vice President, and has chaired many CMG committees. Merle is actively participating in committee work for the Association for Contract Textiles. She is a Textile Design graduate of the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art.
